The Untergrundmuseum Ost is a small but subversive quotation mark among the bigger museums in the cultural landscape of Berlin. The non-profit project originated from the art scene in East Germany. Guest artist, readings, videos and music are part of the program today. By organizing storytelling, guided tours, seminars and discourses, the Untergrundmuseum and its research center Ost have been working since 1990 on projects regarding the presence of history as a matter of the future. The project space, which was established in 1995 in the Linienstraße in Berlin Mitte, is a contemporary witness project with a large collection of objects set in nine room installations in a listed building from 1794. The historical exhibition covers history from the Industrial Revolution to the wonders of technological progress and the questions regarding the present ideology of economic growth.
